BLOG POST 3

  For this Blog post I interviewed Ms. Wolfe whom is a librarian at a local middle school. During our interview we talked about Shared Foundation VI which is Engage. We talked about the domains Think, Create, Share and Grow and how she uses these daily in her library. The school librarian domains and competencies we focused on the most was under the Think domain. “School librarians promote ethical and legal guidelines for gathering and using information by: 1.Directing learners to responsibly use information, technology, and media for learning, and modeling this responsible use. 2.Modeling the understanding of ethical use of information, technology, and media. 3.Teaching learners how and why to evaluate information for accuracy, validity, social and cultural context, and appropriateness for need (AASL, 2018, p.112).”   Ms. Wolfe thinks this is a very important domain for librarians to cover.   For this Blog post I interviewed Ms. Ryder whom is a librarian at a local early childhood center. During our interview we talked about Shared Foundation IV which is Curate. We talked about the domains Think, Create, Share and Grow and how she uses these daily in her library. The school librarian domains and competencies we focused on the most was under the Think domain. “School librarians challenge learners to act on an information need by: 1.Modeling the response to a need to gather and organize information. 2.Designing opportunities for learners to explore possible information sources. 3.Guiding leaners to make critical choices about information sources to use (AASL, 2018, p.94).”   Ms. Ryder says she uses this domain regularly with her students.   For this Blog post I interviewed Ms. Jefferson whom is a librarian at a local high school. During our interview we talked about Shared Foundation III which is Collaborate. We talked about the domains Think, Create, Share and Grow and how she uses these daily in her library. The school librarian domains and competencies we focused on the most was under the Grow domain. “School librarians foster active participation in learning situations by: 1.Stimulating learners to actively contribute to group discussions. 2.Creating a learning environment in which learners understand that learning is a social responsibility (AASL, 2018, p.84).”   Ms. Jefferson uses the Grow domain in her library all of the time.   For this Blog post I interviewed Ms. Speed whom is a librarian at a local high school. During our interview we talked about the Shared Foundation II which is Include . We talked about the domains Think, Crete, Share and Grow and how she used these daily in her library. The school librarian domains and competencies we focused on the most was under the Share domain. “School librarians facilitate experiences in which learners exhibit empathy and tolerance for diverse ideas by: Giving learners opportunities to engage in informed conversation and active debate Guiding learners to contribute to discussions in which multiple viewpoints on a topic are expressed (AASL, 2018, p.76).”   Ms. Speed admits the Include foundation is one of her favorites and she uses this domain all of the time in her library with the students.
